Weaving is a strong cultural activity which has been used by the Maung women of Goulburn Island for many years, and a skill they have preserved and passed on throughout the many generations.
Pandanus Weaving is the largest component to Mardbalk Arts with many of the works being widely recognised and commended for the strong use of natural colours (all collected on the island) and the creative and inspiring designs created almost daily.

did you know?
Mardbalk Art & Craft Centre holds works from many indigenous people from all over the Top End. Artists come from as far away as Central Australia, Alice Springs, Torres Straight, East and West Arnhem Land, Elcho, Groote and Croker Islands and they have all made their new homes in either Warruwi or Minjilang. Mardbalk is in the process of holding many exhibitions in Darwin and beyond to feature the diverse range of talent here on Goulburn Island.
